Save The Waves former environmental director Josh Berry was born and raised in a small town in West Marin, where he reveled in the region's pristine open spaces and coastline. He first walked into the Save The Waves offices back in 2003, looking for ideas on how to start up an ocean conservation organization in Chile, where he had been living, studying and surfing. Berry soon thereafter co-founded the organization Proplaya, which helped ignite a coastal environmental movement in Chile.
After a joint mission to Chile with Save The Waves in 2006 to research water pollution issues stemming from the Chilean forestry industry, Josh was hired to launch and lead STW's successful Chile Program. Josh returned to Northern California in 2009 and took over as environmental director, where he managed all aspects of the organization's environmental policy and environmental programs, in addition to continuing to manage the Chile program.
Josh has since left the Save The Waves staff but continues on the Advisory Board, helping consult on environmental issues. He also may in the future work with Save The Waves on special projects, including documentary film, where he already has several films to his credit with the org: Pulp, Poo & Perfection, Keeping Coast, All Points South, and Standing.
