Fuerza Chile! UNITED FOR CLEAN WATER

We are all connected by the ocean and united in its defense. As part of Save The Waves’ work to preserve the surfing coastline, we are implementing the next phase of work to protect the coast and ocean in south central Chile. This campaign, entering its second year, is called “Fuerza Chile! United for Clean Water,” and focuses on building the capacity of communities and local organizations to serve as the stewards of coastal and marine resources.

We are working with our Chilean partners, including the Maule Itata Coastkeeper, to hold multiple beach cleanups on March 23, 2013 from 10am – 2pm in Pichilemu, Punta de Lobos, Loanco, Curanipe and Cobquecura simultaneously. The main purpose is to not only conduct a large-scale cleanup of beaches and rivers in each location, but to also educate community members about the importance of stewardship and involve them in other activities to protect the coast and ocean such as water quality monitoring and advocacy.
