Estimado Srs,

I am writing on behalf of surfers all over the world to express our dismay regarding the port expansion project in Cuacedo. The extension of the harbor jetty will not only destroy endangered coral reef, but also destroy a recreational surfing location to the south of the port, which will effectively bury a world class surfing location. This surf spot has been a popular recreational site for decades, enjoyed by local athletes and traveling surfers alike, and its high value should not be underestimated. These natural features of the coastline have contributed to increased tourism in the area, benefiting the local economy, and have also had an immeasurable positive effect on the health and happiness of the citizens who live nearby them.

Surfing is a sport that has experienced extraordinary growth over the past few years. The presence of good quality surf spots has been proven to be a major tourist attraction in many places of the world, and has driven a multi-billion dollar international market. Good surfing waves rely on the presence of specific geological coastal features, which is why on most coastlines there are normally only a few places where surfers congregate. Cuacedo is one of these places. We urge you to consider alternatives to the proposed port extension. If the wave is adversely affected and the coral reef destroyed, your government might be financially liable for the loss of these natural recreational sites, which is a violation of the environmental standards set forth by the your country.
