June 15, 2013 San Francisco, CA – Life Is A Wave, the annual fundraiser hosted by Save The Waves Coalition, once again barreled through the 111 Minna Gallery in downtown San Francisco on Friday night, June 14th. In its seventh year, the event raised nearly $60,000 for Save The Waves’ environmental programs, helping to further protect and preserve surfing coastline around the world.
This year Jack O’Neill, inventor of the wetsuit, was presented with the 2013 Wave Saver Award for his work protecting the ocean environment and creating a new generation of stewards through the O’Neill Sea Odyssey program. “Jack’s vision has inspired countless kids across California and the world to be stewards of the ocean,” said Pat O’Neill, accepting the award on behalf of his father at the evening’s VIP reception. “O’Neill firmly stands behind the great work of Save The Waves around the world, and we are pleased to continue supporting them”.
The event featured artwork from internationally renowned artists like Wolfgang Bloch, Sean Davey, and Coleen Hanley, as well as top level local talent from contributors like Seth Migdail, Adam Warmington, and Art Gimbel. The evening’s festivities also featured live music from local reggae artists Native Elements, as well as the talents of DJ Julicio and DJ Pause who kept the dance floor at capacity all night long.
“It was fantastic to see so many people come out to support us,” said Save The Waves executive director Nik Strong-Cvetich. “Life Is A Wave helps us continue our work protecting surfing coastlines through our unique approach combining protected areas, economics, and direct action in places like Chile, Peru, Mexico, Bali and here at home.”
Save The Waves would like to send an enthusiastic thank you to all those who donated to the auction and attended the event, as well as Life Is A Wave 2013 event sponsors, including Barracuda Networks, Billabong, O’Neill, Clif Bar, Patagonia, RVCA, Surfline, Hog Island Oyster Co., Alaska Brewing Co., Longboard Vineyards, Tequila Clase Azul, 7x7, Vine Affairs and Event Magic.
