On March 15 in San Francisco, California, Aqua Surf Shop and Save the Waves jointly presented a party to benefit the global wave saving campaigns of Save the Waves Coalition. Over 500 people attended and rocked 111 Minna from 6pm until 2am enjoying the three DJs, three bands, silent art auction, raffle and flowing drinks. It was an ultimate party.
The evening started off with early arrivers sipping cocktails and enjoying the incredible silent art auction pieces donated by Aleks Petrovitch, Nick Allen, Thomas Campbell, John McCambridge, Andy Hughes, William Henry, Serena Mitnik-Miller, Nathan Stapley, Greg Brunson, Ward Coffey, Dave Muller, Alberto Cuadros and Josh Yoches... to name a few.
As more people arrived - greeted at the door by the gregarious Emilio - the lights dimmed, the music pumped and the crowd got down. In one room DJs Paul McNitt, Arron Pope and Dean Samaras lit up the dance floor, spinning classics and new material, while in the adjacent room the bands; CNB, Front Porch and The Mermen rocked out the Nor Cal / Ocean Beach crew with jamming, psychedelic surf rock.
The high walls of 111 Minna were graced with continuous video from local filmmakers/videographers. Showcasing a variety of films including Lost Jewel of the Atlantic, scenes from a new documentary - yet to be released - about the start of the surf culture at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, and many clips of local rippers. Thanks to filmmakers Mark Ruegg, Jacob Holcomb, Sachi Cunningham, Silvin Morgan, Grant Washburn, Aleks Petrovitch and Greg Brunson.
Mid-way through the event Save the Waves Board Member, Peter Reich (The creator of the event and driving force. Thanks Pete!), got on the mic, thanking the attendees, and raffling off some great donated items including a Nev surfboard and about 500 pounds of various schwag from The North Face, Aqua Surf Shop, The Ryde, Hurley, Billabong and Xcel.
"This event was more successful than I ever imagined," said Adrienne Cardiel, STW's Membership and Outreach Coordinator. "And a blast...I had so much fun!"
Special thanks to all who helped make this event a success especially Aleks Petrovitch and the Aqua Surf Shop crew in San Francisco. Also many thanks to the donors, attendees and supporters - your continued support is a vital component in Save the Waves ongoing work.
