Save The Waves, the International Surfing Association and numerous local partner organizations are establishing World Surfing Reserves (WSR) to protect waves and recreational surfing zones forever. Although only a few sites will be enshrined annually, surfing federations across the globe have submitted their nominated waves to be enshrined.

Using Google Earth, Save The Waves has constructed a map of all the WSR nominees, available for you to download at the links below. With this map you can tour all of the nominated waves at once, or country by country. If you are not familiar with Google Earth, our map will appear in the sidebar in the "Places" section as a file labeled “WSR_Nominated_Waves.kmz” once opened.

Google Earth is a free program from Google that aids user in seeing the earth in a new way. The program allows you to fly to and visit geographic locations at a 90 degree angle, as well as zooming in and rotating your position to view the image in three dimensions. If you have not tried the program, you should - it's truly awesome!

Double-click on the file to open the WSR folder where you will find each country and their nominated waves. In the bottom left-hand corner of the "Places" section is the tour feature. With this feature you have the ability to take a global tour by using the WSR folder that comprises all waves. Or, you can also tour one country at a time by using the individual country folders separately.

Our WSR nominees map is a work in progress, so look for updates often and your feedback will be appreciated. Enjoy!
