Male Point Surfing

Male is a small island with a massive population of 100,000 people squeezed into 2 sq/km. Coastal erosion has been very problematic on the island so seawalls of tetra-pods have been built around the entire circumference of the island.

Nowadays, Male Point, the only surf break in town has a ton of backwash and only works properly at low tide due to the coastal armoring. The break used to produce excellent peaks that were magnets for swell.

Click here for more information about different types of coastal armoring and how it adversely affects the coast's natural ability to manage waves and beaches.
