As a talented longboarder and California native, Julie Cox loves to travel and to shoot photos along the way. In October of 2016, Julie opened an outdoor and surf inspired shop and Club in Pacifica, CA called, “Traveler”. The “Traveler Surf & Swim Club” was born out of the desire to get warm after surfing and have a cool place to hang out in Pacifica with amenities including hot outdoor showers, surfboard storage, lockers, sunny garden, and heated outdoor furniture.
Though she didn’t start surfing regularly until she was 16, Julie remembers being entranced by the ocean as a little kid. She grew up in Agoura Hills, in Los Angeles County, not far from the longboarder’s paradise of Malibu, and soon became a local at LA county beaches. Her favorite: Leo Carrillo State Beach.
As a university student UC Santa Cruz, on the central coast of California, Julie earned a degree in Environmental Studies in tandem with a pro surfing career. She surfed on the Roxy team for eight years and enjoyed surfing with the best surfers in the world.
Through surfing, Julie has led an interesting life combining all things surf. She launched The Jule Collection in 2005 with Jed Noll, a line of jewel-inspired women’s surfboards that mixed her ideas and surf knowledge with his masterful shaping. The Jule Collection can be found at Traveler and Noll Surfboards.
Julie worked as Operations Manager and Director of the California Surf Museum from 2008-2012, a non-profit organization with a mission to Preserve Surfing Heritage.
Julie also competed in the women’s longboard tour where she was ranked 5th in the world in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Julie taught surfing at Las Olas Surf Safaris for seven years and coached surfing in the San Francisco Bay area on and off for many years.
