In January 2018, the Guarda do Embaú World Surfing Reserve launched a seven month study to quantify the economic value of their wave and coastal resources. This project is being carried out in partnership with the Guarda WSR, Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), and the Surf Sustainability Research Group at UFSC. The study is scheduled to conclude in July 2018.
This represents the seventh Surfonomics study by Save The Waves and will enable the Guarda World Surfing Reserve to determine the economic value of waves and surfing to their local community and, in turn, help decision makers understand the importance of coastal conservation policies.
