Life Is A Wave Success

Life Is A Wave, hosted by Save The Waves Coalition, touched down once again at the 111 Minna Gallery in downtown San Francisco on Friday night, June 12th. In its ninth year, the event raised nearly $65,000 for Save The Waves’ environmental programs, helping to further protect and preserve the coastal environment around the world.

This year Chad Nelsen, CEO of the Surfrider Foundation, was presented with the 2015 Wave Saver Award for his decades of work protecting the coastal environment and growing the Surfrider Foundation’s grassroots impact.

“Chad’s vision has inspired countless coastal victories across California and the world,” said Executive Director Nik Strong-Cvetich, “If you like surfing Trestles you might want to thank him.”

The event featured artwork from internationally renowned artists like Wolfgang Bloch, Rodrigo Farias, and Matt Beard, as well as one of kind custom surfboards from contributors like Michel Junod, Marc Andreini, and Tris Tarantino of Cedar Surfboards. The evening’s festivities also featured live music from local artists Dan P and the Bricks, as well as the talents of DJ Free who kept the dance floor rocking all night long.

This year’s live auction featured exclusive travel packages from Absolute Travel & Billabong USA, as well as limited edition surfboards from Michel Junod, FCD and Cedar surfboards.

 

“It was fantastic to see so many people come out to support us,” said Save The Waves executive director Nik Strong-Cvetich. “Life Is A Wave helps us continue our work protecting surfing coastlines through our unique approach combining protected areas, economics, and direct action in places like Chile, Peru, Mexico, and here at home.”
