GENERAL STW INFORMATION

Frequently Asked Questions

Save The Waves Coalition (STW) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting surf ecosystems around the world.

STW was launched in 2003.

To protect surf ecosystems across the globe.

A world where surf ecosystems are valued and where surfing provides a proactive vehicle for long-term coastal conservation.

To protect 1,000 waves by 2030.

A surf ecosystem includes more than just a wave — it encompasses the interconnection between the land, sea, biodiversity, and local communities that depend on it.

Safeguarding these areas protects marine biodiversity, enhances coastal resilience, supports local livelihoods, and promotes community well-being. If you protect the waves, then you protect the place. If you protect the place, you protect the wave.

The organization believes that legal protection, active stewardship, and a mobilized community together lead to healthy and protected surf ecosystems. We summarize this as: Protect, Steward, Defend.

Power Of The Coalition

Why do we do this work? An inspiring message from members of our community and Coalition.

To enjoy the places where we play.

To give back to the sport that has given so much happiness.

To preserve livelihoods and communities.

To offer future generations a chance to experience what we have.

To preserve our oceans and waves. To save our home planet.

Will you do your part to protect the places we all love?
