Welcome Tyler Fox and Jeff Denholm!
Save The Waves Coalition is proud to welcome big wave surfer and Santa Cruz Waves founder Tyler Fox and Patagonia Waterman/Ambassador Jeff Denholm as our latest surfing ambassadors! Both have a strong commitment to the values of preservation, respect, and leadership in their community and are excited to help Save The Waves further meet our mission.
Tyler Fox hales from the cold water and powerful waves of Santa Cruz, California. He has been fortunate enough to travel throughout Europe teaching kids to surf, mixed it up with the world’s best big wave surfers on the Big Wave World Tour as well as a recent 4th place finish in The Mavericks Invitational where he was the only goofy footed surfer to make the final. His success is not limited to his surfing ability but also extends to running his local business Santa Cruz Waves, a print and online media outlet serving the Santa Cruz community and beyond. Founded in 2010, Santa Cruz Waves acts as a brand and voice for environmental, social, and sports news to a growing base of supporters. His dedication to both his local community and the coastal communities abroad make him a perfect ambassador for Save The Waves Coalition.
“I’ve always had a deep connection with the ocean and am stoked to support the efforts of Save The Waves Coalition to preserve and protect this resource so our future generations can enjoy it for years to come”, says Tyler.
Jeff Denholm is as tough as they come. Born and raised on the southern coast of Maine, he lost his dominant arm in an accident on an Alaskan fishing trawler. Undeterred and with the use of self-designed prosthetics, his connection to the ocean has only grown – he surfs, free dives, bodysurfs and competes in long-distance paddleboard races.
“The ocean is my escape,” he says. “In, on, under or other. I am extremely proud to fly the Save The Waves flag and help make a difference at the places I love.”
When he is not keeping his gills wet, Jeff can be found at the helm of his sustainable firefighting company Atira Systems Inc. where he and his team are working hard to rid the planet of the toxic flame retardants being dumped on our forests to the tune of millions of gallons per year. He is honored to hold Ambassador positions with Patagonia, Best Day Foundation and 1% for the planet. No matter what Jeff decides to tackle in life he always remains committed to the core.
